Race4Business in aid of Havens Hospice

Simon Hedges, Accounts Manager Chelmsford:

“LB Chelmsford managed to get together a team for the Race4Business on Wednesday 29th June 2022.  It was a running event put on by Havens Hospices in order to raise funds to allow them to carry on their incredible work.  LB were originally hoping to field a larger team but, in the end, just three brave runners toed the start line.  Sarah Wilson from Tax, Neil Wade of Audit and me Simon Hedges from Accounts.

I was once a runner, but since having twin girls nearly 5 years ago the running has taken a back seat.  I did manage to get out for a couple of 5k runs prior just to make sure I could complete it but that was the extent of my preparation.  That lack of training showed, but I made it round in the evening sun in a time of 33:23 in what was a little over a 5k race, not quite the 3.5 miles as advertised but I was glad of the slightly reduced distance.

I saw Sarah early in the race as she passed me and went on her way.  I was sensible enough to not follow and was glad I didn’t as she finished in a time of 28:07.  Whilst Neil elected to start with me, but then spent much of his race weaving through the crowds.  He was held up by some slow-moving traffic on parts of the course but still succeeded in running 20:17 for 19th place.  Neil claims this made him 1st Accountant to finish.

Myself, Neil and Sarah all had a thoroughly enjoyable evening whilst also raising money for a great local charity.  We will all be there next year with our own race goals.  Neil’s to beat the solicitors, and surveyors that deprived him of top spot.  Sarah’s to run even faster, and for me to train and look to relive former glories.

It would be amazing if more of our LB colleagues could join us for what is sure to be an incredible event next year”.
