Upcoming Changes to SDLT Nil Rate Threshold: What You Need to Know

The Stamp Duty Land Tax (‘SDLT’) nil rate threshold for residential property purchases is set to return to its pre-September 2022 levels as the temporary relief period ends on 31 March 2025.

From 1 April 2025, the nil rate threshold for residential property purchases will revert to £125,000. For first-time buyers, the nil rate threshold will return to £300,000 for properties with a purchase price of up to £500,000.

If you are planning to purchase a property, it could be advantageous to complete your transaction before these changes come into effect.

With the Spring Statement due on 26 March 2025, there may be additional SDLT changes to consider.

For tailored advice or further information on how these changes might impact you, feel free to get in touch with our Property Taxes Team at PropertyTax@Affinia.co.uk.
