Welcome to Yunus Jawaheer

Earlier this week we welcomed Yunus Jawaheer as our new Head of Risk & Compliance, based in our Stratford office. As part of his role at Affinia, Yunus will develop and oversee risk management and compliance governance frameworks, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies. He will also develop and implement compliance strategies to safeguard Affinia’s reputation and operational integrity.  

Below Yunus has shared his previous work experience and a bit more about himself: 

“I am a Canadian (with a Mauritian background) and moved to the UK in 2021.

With over 12 years of experience in risk management and compliance within the financial services industry, my expertise includes strategic planning, regulatory compliance, policy development, risk management, business continuity and disaster recovery, and compliance matters related to data privacy, IT security, legal and human resources.   

I hold a Master’s degree in Public Policy, Administration, and Law from York University and an Honours Bachelor of Social Sciences degree with a certificate in Law from the University of Ottawa. 

My professional journey includes my most recent role as Senior Risk and Compliance Manager at Tradeteq Ltd, where I led the company’s compliance function, ensuring adherence to regulatory and industry standards (FCA, GDPR, SOC 2, ISO 27001), developing company-wide policies, serving as the point of contact for KYC and onboarding, and chairing the Risk Committee. Prior to this, I held senior roles at Cancer Research UK, Barnett Waddingham, and spent nearly a decade at the Canada Revenue Agency, gaining extensive experience in risk management, business intelligence, project management, and compliance audits. 

Throughout my career, I have delivered significant achievements in risk and compliance.  At Tradeteq Ltd, I led the company to achieve and maintain SOC2 Type II and ISO27001/9001 certifications and I implemented a streamlined procurement process.  During my time at the Canada Revenue Agency, I contributed to a high-priority internal audit mitigating privacy and cyberattack risks. I also introduced a cross-functional team to enhance collaboration in tax evasion cases, built automated tools to streamline reporting, and facilitated risk assessment workshops with the Board. 

Outside of work, I enjoy watching football and Formula 1, spending time with friends and family, and travelling. I am particularly passionate about travel, having visited 20 cities and 5 villages in 7 different countries in 2023.”
