Important Changes: Companies House – Document Filing

As you may be aware, there are important changes which are being introduced by the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act (ECCTA) 2023, which will affect all Company Directors, persons with significant control (PSCs), and individuals filing documents with Companies House.

Please note: In line with your migration to First Order the Affinia ACSP will be relevant to your office. Any questions on this – please speak to Tanya Johnson.

We have contacted all clients this may impact to make them aware, please see communication attached, but please also see key information below:

Identity Verification – What You Need to Know

1. Verification Requirements
We can only carry out a Companies House ID verification check if:
We hold a copy of the client’s valid passport or photocard driving licence.
A Smart Search check has been completed and passed.
(This is now standard for all new clients.)

2. New Client Company Incorporations

For brand new clients requesting a company formation:

  • Request the following immediately:
    • Biometric Passport or Photocard Driving Licence
    • Proof of Address
  • Business Support will complete a Smart Search and ensure a PASS result.
  • Run the ID Verification check with Companies House.
  • Contact the client to obtain their Personal Code directly.
  • Only once all the above is complete can we proceed with the company incorporation.

3. Existing Clients – Potential Issues

This process may only cause delays for:

  • Historical clients who have not previously provided ID documents.
  • Clients with expired passports or outdated ID documents.
  • Business Support will perform checks on the ID held as part of the CS01 process.

If you have any questions on this process, please contact Tanya Johnson in the first instance.
