November Partner Corner – Chris Annis!

This month’s Partner Corner is on Chris Annis, our LB Director based in Ipswich:

1. What was your first job?

I worked behind the till at my local “Village Store”. I started with a Paper Round there and was delighted give up the cold, early-mornings for this role!

2. When did you decide you wanted to work in the Accountancy industry?

I wasn’t really sure what to do after finishing 6^th Form – I saw a role advertised with an Insurance firm and another with an Accountancy Firm. I interviewed for both, but only the Accounting Firm offered me a job!

3. What were your early career aspirations?

To get qualified as soon as I could to see where that would take me in the firm I worked for at the time.

4. What was your first car, and did you pass your driving test the first time?

A dark blue B-reg Vauxhall Astra. I enjoyed taking driving tests so much and was very lucky to get to have 3 of them!

5. Did you know at the start of your career that you wanted to become ‘Partner’ one day?

I think that once I got into the profession, I just adopted the approach that I wanted to progress as far as I possibly could.

6. What would be your one piece of advice for those new trainees starting out in the accountancy/tax world?

To learn “what” to do, but to also learn “why” we do it.

7. What challenges did you face early in your career?

Juggling work, studies and a social life (not necessarily in that order).

8. What do you most enjoy about your role?

I just love seeing how far we as a business have grown – the growth we have seen in the size of the team, the client numbers, the physical offices we all work from, constantly reminds me what a great business we are all part of.

9. What do you enjoy doing outside of work (hobbies/activities)?

I enjoy following Ipswich Town FC, and get to as many home and away games as I can each season. I also enjoy the gym, watching films, a bit of golf, travelling and socialising.

10. Where do you enjoy going on holiday?

Anywhere! – I really don’t mind.

11. What’s your favourite film?

Rocky IV

12. What music do you enjoy?

It really depends what mood I am in, but probably if pushed, I’d say 90’s dance.

13. What sports do you enjoy?

Football, pool, snooker and golf.

14. Who inspires you and why?

Sir Bobby Robson (English Footballer and Football Manager) – he achieved so much in his career, yet still remained humble.

15. What do you like about LB Group?

The journey we are all on.

16. Where do you see LB Group in five years’ time?

Bigger, better and a place where everyone can fulfil their potential even more so than currently.
